The Korea Atomic Industrial Forum (KAIF), chaired by Mr. Jooho Hwang, CEO of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP), hosted the 2024 Korea Atomic Power Annual Conference from April 24 (Wed) to 26 (Fri) at BEXCO in Busan. This year’s conference brought together over 1,000 nuclear experts from more than 100 domestic and international institutions and companies across the nuclear sector.
Under the theme "Nuclear Power: A Path to Overcoming the Climate Crisis," the three-day conference featured a variety of high-level sessions. The program on April 24 included keynote speeches, Session 1: “Nuclear Power Driving a New Leap Forward: Safe Operation 365”, and a special session on “The Role of Nuclear Power in Addressing the Climate Crisis.” On April 25, the conference continued with Session 2: “Nuclear Power: Opening a New Horizon in Energy.” Notably, the opening session attracted significant attention with the official launch of i-SMR & SSNC, as well as a special session on high-level radioactive waste management.
Distinguished keynote speakers included William D. Magwood, Director-General of the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA), and Tom Greatrex, Chief Executive of the UK’s Nuclear Industry Association (NIA).
The 2024 conference also welcomed prominent international nuclear leaders, including Naoto Sekimura, Vice President of the University of Tokyo; Harri Varjonen, Secretary General of the Finnish Nuclear Society; Bogdan Termegan, Director of the Romanian Nuclear Energy Association; and Rafal Lukasik, Head of the Research and Innovation Office at Poland’s Centrum Lukasiewicz. Their participation provided valuable insights into the nuclear agendas of countries around the world and reaffirmed the growing global importance of nuclear power in the face of the climate crisis.
