The 10th East Asia Nuclear Forum was held from October 22 (Tue) to 24 (Thu), 2024, in Dunhuang, Gansu Province, China.

The forum brought together nuclear industry experts from four East Asian countries—Korea, China, Japan, and Taiwan—to discuss strategies for enhancing nuclear safety and promoting long-term cooperation across the region. Held annually, the forum serves as a key platform for building multilateral collaboration frameworks and advancing the nuclear industry in East Asia through civil-sector engagement.

This year’s event featured six sessions, including the opening and closing sessions. Experts from each participating country shared updates on their domestic nuclear industries and exchanged insights on strengthening nuclear safety across the region.

Following the forum, a two-day technical tour was organized from October 23 to 24, offering participants the opportunity to observe key Chinese nuclear and renewable energy infrastructure. On October 23, delegates visited the Beishan Underground Research Laboratory (URL) to learn about China’s progress on high-level radioactive waste disposal. On October 24, they toured Asia’s largest molten salt solar thermal power plant, a 100MW tower-type facility powered by over 12,000 heliostat panels.
 

The 11th East Asia Nuclear Forum is scheduled to be hosted by Korea in 2025. The Korea Atomic Industrial Forum (KAIF) plans to organize a comprehensive 2–3 day program, including both the forum and technical site visits, to facilitate deeper collaboration among the four countries and further promote regional engagement in the nuclear sector.
