Korea Atomic Power Annual Conference 2025
"Resilience and Versatile Contributions of Nuclear Energy"

The Korea Atomic Industrial Forum (KAIF) successfully hosted the “40th Anniversary 2025 Korea Atomic Power (KAP) Conference” at the Lotte Hotel Seoul from April 29 to 30, 2025.

First launched in 1986, the KAP annual conference marked its 40th anniversary as Korea’s largest and most significant event in the nuclear industry.

This year’s conference brought together over 1,100 domestic and international experts under the theme “Resilience and Versatile Contributions of Nuclear Energy.” Participants explored the expanding role of nuclear energy in the era of climate crisis, carbon neutrality, and artificial intelligence.

Notably, Sama Bilbao y León, Director General of the World Nuclear Association (WNA), and Chris Anderson, Head of TED, the globally renowned conference platform, delivered keynote speeches emphasizing the potential of nuclear energy for the future and the importance of international cooperation.

In addition, global leaders in the world nuclear industry participated as speakers and shared insights on cutting-edge technologies and strategic developments.

Throughout the two-day conference, a series of in-depth sessions were held covering key global issues such as long-term operation (LTO), artificial intelligence, energy security, small modular reactors (SMRs), and radioactive waste management.
Participants explored ways to enhance international collaboration and strengthen global competitiveness in the nuclear sector.

In his opening remarks, KAIF Chairman Dr. Jooho Whang stated, “Over the past 40 years, the Korea Atomic Power Conference has played a leading role in advancing the Korean nuclear industry and building a strong global network.” He added, “We hope this annual event will continue to grow as a global platform for exchanging the latest technologies and innovative ideas.”

The 40th anniversary celebration was further highlighted by the attendance of key Korean government ministries, including the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission.

In their congratulatory speeches, representatives emphasized that nuclear energy must play a vital role in addressing the climate crisis and ensuring energy security in this rapidly changing era. They also expressed hope that Korea will continue to lead as a nuclear powerhouse by fostering a safer and more sustainable nuclear industry.

Held concurrently with the KAP, the 2025 International Nuclear Industry Exhibition (INEX) featured participation from KHNP, KEPCO and other KEPCO group affiliates, as well as leading domestic and international nuclear companies such as Doosan Enerbility, Westinghouse, Framatome and Orano who showcased their technologies and products. Active business matchmaking took place with overseas buyers, including more than 230 B2B meetings.

Particularly noteworthy was the Overseas Buyer’s Zone, which hosted 14 overseas companies from 9 countries, facilitating robust discussions with Korean suppliers. Participating companies explored tangible opportunities for collaboration, focusing on emerging nuclear markets.
